The author and compiler of this work is Prof. André Wessels, chairperson of the Department of History at the University of the Free State, and one of the foremost authorities on the history of the Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902), as well as being a prolific writer of many books about this war, including Lord Roberts and the war in South Africa 1899-1902 (2000) and Lord Kitchener and the war in South Africa 1899-1902 (2006).
