There is a tendency amongst women who have experienced marital rape not to perceive themselves as victims. Explaining this, Russell (1975:71), who by means of her work, Politics of Rape (1975) gave prominence to the issue of marital rape, stated that it is difficult for a woman to perceive her husband as a rapist and still stay with him.
