Victimisation and fear of victimisation have become national phenomena in South Africa today. Despite the fact that South Africa is a signatory to the United Nations Declaration of Basic Principles of Justice for Victims of Crime and Abuse of Power, current victim support strategies are uncoordinated, inadequate, and when in existence, limited and under-utilised.
