In a broad social context 1990 will definitely be remembered in South Africa as a political watershed and a year of great changes. The changes that have taken place since 1990 and those still expected (especially after 27 April 1994) generally affect everyone, but in particular institutions such as the South African Police as visible symbols of the existing power structure (as at the time of writing this article in March 1994).
