Rising crime rates are an international phenomenon, but in South Africa they have reached alarming proportions. The increase in crime is spread over organised crime (syndicates), corporate crime (white collar crime), and street crime (crime with an individual victim). The media, politicians, academics, community leaders and lay people have expressed their concern about the rising crime rate in South Africa.
