oa CSIR Science Scope - Coupling atmospheric and ocean models : a changing planet - the atmosphere

Abstract

There are fewer measurements of CO concentrations and fluxes in the Southern Ocean than in the Northern Hemisphere oceans. The latter is extensively studied due to a higher intensity of commercial shipping. More extensive research needs to be done on the Southern Ocean and its CO concentrations to construct accurate ocean-atmosphere models and to assess the effects of increases of CO in the atmosphere on global warming.
