Global warming is driven by the build-up of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. For the past century, it has been mitigated thanks to the ability of our oceans and ecosystems on land to take up the excess CO2; but man, and man's track record of unsustainable development, cannot be 'saved' by Mother Nature indefinitely.
