If a tree falls in the middle of a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? This is a well-known philosophical thought experiment that seemingly has no real-world applications. But according to Angeline Dludla, this is precisely the type of question that scientists and engineers who specialise in sensors seek to answer.
