Abstract

The main focus of this article is to highlight the importance of the historical and heritage sites within the Free State Province, their neglect and the role they played as dwellings for the African tribes. The Batlokoa tribe of Mantatise and Sekonyela settled at Nkoe/Sefate/ Poqong and Joalaboholo sites in the Free State Province. These sites became a contested terrain, particularly during the reign of Mantatise. Therefore, to understand the history of the Batlokoa tribe in the Free State Province, their dwelling sites should be considered.
