oa South African Journal of Cultural History - Afrikaanse Liederwysies - 'n besondere erfenis : Afrikaans 'liederwysies' - a special heritage

Abstract

Afrikaans 'liederwysies' are tunes from different sources which our ancestors procured or adapted for singing with Dutch texts of the rhymed Psalms and Evangelical hymns out of the official hymn-book. They include tunes used for texts from other sacred collections like those of Sluiter and Groenewegen. Together they represent a valuable addition to the cultural inheritance of the Afrikaner.
