The adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in September 2015 presents a great opportunity to eradicate poverty, protect the environment and promote inclusive development. Trillions of dollars' worth of resources are needed to make this agenda a reality. However, it is nearly impossible to get an accurate and comprehensive picture of the resources flowing to countries for development purposes. Going forward, and in order for the 2030 Agenda to be effectively implemented, it will be important to address the shortcomings that have enabled these data gaps. This article makes an attempt to highlight the causes of some of these shortcomings and possible ways to address them.
