oa De Rebus - The changing approach to the problem of Alcoholism
The concept of alcoholism as a disease is one that is steadily gaining ground and it may be fairly stated that by accepting this view thousands of alcoholics who would otherwise have been lost to the community are now useful citizens. It is generally realised that alcoholism is a major social problem and should be combatted as strenuously as are tuberculosis, cancer or any other widespread affliction. When the tremendous loss of man-power, particularly in the light of the universal shortage of skilled and semi-skilled persons is considered, the need for a determined campaign at national level is apparent.
