Scotland Historically the solicitors' profession developed in Scotland in several distinct groups. The best known of these are the Society of Writers to the Signet in Edinburgh, the Royal Faculty of Procurators in Glasgow, the Society of Advocates in Aberdeen (who in spite of the name are solicitors) and the Society of Solicitors in the Supreme Courts of Scotland. Originality the members of each of the groups had distinct functions but gradually the differences started to fade and ultimately disappeared almost entirely.
