When foreign manufacturers begin exporting to the United states, they usually utilize independent US distributors. Sometimes they decide that it would be more profitable to set up their own subsidiaries to distribute in the US. These distributor changes frequently raise questions under the US antitrust law. Court decisions and public policy shifts during the past few years have made the antitrust laws relating to distribulion somewhat less restrictive than they were previously.
