When Bophuthatswana became an independent state on 6 December 1977, most of the South African laws were accepted in toto in that State. The Abuse of Dependence-producing Substances and Rehabilitation Centres Act 41 of 1971 was one of the Acts so accepted by Bophuthatswana. However, after the date of independence, any amendments to any Act in the Republic of South Africa do not apply to Bophuthatswana.
