On 1 July 2005 the Immigration Amendment Act 19 of 2004 (the Act) and the new Regulations were gazetted into operation under GG27725/27-6-2005. The stated intentions of the Act (as amended) as set out in the preamble to the Act are, inter alia, � to ensure expeditious processing of temporary and permanent residence permits, without consuming excessive administrative capacity; and � to promote economic growth by facilitating the entry of exceptionally skilled or qualified foreign nationals.
