Fasting in Ramadhan is not only abstaining from food, but from evil actions, thoughts, and words. Ramadhan is also a time for spiritual reflection and devoting time to worship and pray to Allah. Fasting during the month of Ramadhan is thus regarded as a form of spiritual training for Muslims. In committing ourselves to this form of worship, we can reflect on and correct our deeds and attitudes. The 'hardship' of hunger and thirst that one bears during fasting opens us up to God's Blessings and Mercy, with resultant greater sensitivity, compassion and love toward others.
