Insect species are important in the daily diet of rural people in Africa (Chavanduka 1975; DeFoliart 1995). Papers often list edible insects and give some details on the more commonly encountered species (DeFoliart 1995; Van Huis 1996). Apart from Quin (1959) who studied the feeding habits of the Pedi in South Africa, specifics are often missing.
