Gonometa postica Walker and Gonometa rufobrunnea Aurivillius (Lasiocampidae) are the only two indigenous moth species in southern Africa that are currently used in silk production. Argema mimosae de Boisduval (Saturniidae) is, however, another species that has been considered for silk production.
