The endemic southern African genus Rhabdopholis Burmeister, 1855, is revised. Four species are included in the genus, R. albostriata Burmeister, R. costipennis Boheman, and two new species, R. robertsi and R. margaretae, both from the eastern parts of South Africa. 'Rhabdopholis' irrorata Péringuey, 1904, is removed from Rhabdopholis and placed as incertae sedis, but probably a new and currently monotypic genus is required to accommodate this species. Lectotypes and paralectotypes are designated for Rhabdopholis albostriata (LT and one PLT) and 'Rhabdopholis' irrorata (LT and two PLTs). The tribal placement of Rhabdopholis, and its similarity to other African melolonthine taxa, are commented on. All species of Rhabdopholis are redescribed, their distribution mapped, and a key to species provided.
