Abstract

Working on the same set of wasps, we have shown that an increase in the proportion of males, relative to the number of females, is the main ecological cause of male fighting (Nelson & Greeff 2009). The tentative link between male fighting in non-pollinating fig wasps and their physical mating environment (Vincent 1991; Bean & Cook 2001) may thus need to be re-evaluated.
