Abstract

The aim of this article is to set certain criteria in organising the relevant literary study material for the South African learners. In order to make his life and work relevant to South African learners of the Greek language and culture, this article examines only two aspects of Solomos' personality, namely a physical and an ideological. Due to its historical experience and the process of building its new national identity, South Africa proves to be a most suitable place in meeting, apprehending and developing Solomos' artistic worldview both educationally and culturally, provided the teaching view point is changed accordingly.
