The struggle between Greeks and Bulgarians took place in the Turkish dominated Macedonia and lasted forty years (1870-1905). It is known as the Macedonian Struggle. In the case of Greece, there were almost no political and military activities before 1903 in this area. By the early 1904s, the Greek government decided to intervene by sending Greek officers as well as volunteers to offer their service to the Macedonian Struggle. The purpose of this article is to introduce to the reader the personality and military activity of one of them, Costa Garefi, as well as to discuss some unknown aspects of the history of Thessaly (native place of Garefi) and Macedonia.
