n Ekklesiastikos Pharos - Le royaume latin des Montferrat de Thessalonique (1204-1224) : le roi et les institutions

This article examines the institutions of the ephemeral Latin Kingdom of the Montferrats in Thessaloniki with special attention to the status of the king, the consequences of the confirmation of the city's Byzantine privileges by the Latin Emperor of Constantinople, Baldwin of Flanders, and the feudal system imposed by the conquering Latins. It is remarkable that equilibrium was obtained between both these contradictory systems, mainly due to the presence of Queen-Empress Maria-Margarita of Hungary and the reconcilable policy of Emperor Henri of Flanders. Their policy was also responsible for the failure of the Lombard plan for a large Montferrat kingdom, to be united with the Montferrats' territories in Italy.
