On the island of Thera (Santorini), in a village, named Emporeio, at the Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, a very large embroidered Epitaphios of Russian origin, unmentioned in any relevant publication, was found. In this article we identify and examine the morphology and technique of the Epitaphios' design and the typology of its iconography, as well as the relation of the indigenous Greek people with Orthodox Russia. Chronologically, we can assign the Epitaphios to the last decade of the 19th Century, most probably having been manufactured at some atelier in St Petersburg or Odessa.
