This article discusses the importance of narrative asides as narratological markers in the process of understanding the narrative of the Book of Revelation. The research contributions by Tenney, Van Belle and Lee in this regard are highly evaluated. The narrative asides in the apocalyptic Book of 4 Ezra are analyzed in order to gain a broader field of reference and research before the 56 narrative asides in Revelation are identified and classified. This is followed by a brief discussion of the semantic meaning of the asides, indicating the important role played by the narrative asides in the narrative of the Book of Revelation.
