Byzantium in war against Arabs and Blacks of Africa from the IX until centuries XIIS : ambiguity of an human relation
During the period from the 9th to 12th centuries, Byzantium's contacts with the Arabs were marked by conflict. In these relations, black Africans had played an historically important role on the Byzantine as well as on the Arab side. The present article examines the position of these Blacks in the Arab-Byzantine world and demonstrates that many black Africans were living in the Byzantine Empire despite the armed conflicts with the Arabs of Africa. This fact is generally ignored or obscured by contemporary Byzantinists.
