State reporting is an integral part of the obligation to respect, protect, promote and fulfil children's rights as set out in global and African human rights instruments. South Africa is thus under obligation to report on the measures it has taken towards realising children's rights. As a member of the United Nations (UN) and the African Union (AU), South Africa is required to report on its progress (and challenges) to the Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC Committee) and the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC Committee) respectively.
