The present study examines the textual representation of the life of her father in Marguerite Yourcenar's autobiographical trilogy . Post-modern theory has made the reader aware of the complex relationship between identity and writing. The aim of this article is to establish how Yourcenar handled this complexity in her autobiography by drawing on several literary devices and traditions. Finally this analysis pursues the hypothesis that the portrait of the father becomes an oblique form of self-representation.
