While postcolonial studies tend to look at global trends within literary works, they often overlook the singularity of their creative process. There is a need to stress how singular entities such as fictional heroes precisely define themselves as exceptions to a general rule. It is in this perspective that I will analyse Johary Ravaloson's latest novel, , by showing how the book opens itself up to influences that a postcolonial approach would not allow us to see.
