The trend of film reviews on the internet (2003) on the Oscar-Award-winning German film (2001) proves that not only the director Caroline Link could not escape the received stereotype of Kenya as a tourist-destination. Yet the holocaust-theme as well as the colonial era in Kenya in the film imply different questions of identity. Interpersonal relationships in the film which do not coincide with the social norms of their time enable some characters to acquire new perspectives as they develop and elicit different responses to the scene of Africa.
