Borders at home and in foreign lands. Joseph Roth's "Hiob"
Joseph Roth can be regarded as a transnational author par excellence. He lived and worked in East Galicia, Vienna, Berlin and Paris, never feeling quite at home anywhere - a problem he dealt with by writing and which as a theme prevails throughout his work. In "Job - story of a simple man" Roth pays tribute to his Eastern Jewish heritage while outlining boundaries within Jewish life and character, both at home and on foreign soil, thereby addressing the question of their value.
