Die Enthüllung politischer Verbrechen in Gamal al-Ghitanis (1974) und Herta Müllers (1994)

Literature is a reliable indicator for political developments, especially those of an oppressive nature, in any society. Both the personal experience of the authors themselves and their awareness of their responsibility towards their communities usually cause them to deal in their works with the impact of dictatorships on the lives of human beings. This article deals with the specific literary strategies developed in the novels by Egyptian author Gamal al-Ghitani and by German Rumanian author Herta Müller to broach the issue of political crimes, especially in the context of breaking political taboos in their respective societies through literary work.
