Libraries in Ghana, and for that matter in Africa, are comparatively new institutions. Their vital role therefore in the educational, cultural and moral welfare of the people, has not been fully appreciated. The entire history of the public library service in Britain reveals that this lack of awareness of the potential contribution to the progress of any nation is only temporary and much wiII depend upon us to change this attitude.
