The "history" of this fourth edition of Anderson's Unfolding drama of the Bible goes back to a Religion in Life Program presented at Bucknell University in 1952. Although the author indicates that the contents has since been updated, one nevertheless tends to approach a book some fifty-five years post its origin, with a great deal of skepticism, especially with regard to the Bible and Biblical scholarship. Further reservations are raised when the author dismisses the so-called "classroom academic" study of the Bible right at the outset and opts for an approach that attempts "to stand within the Bible and to look out at the world through the window of biblical faith" (p 10).
