Abstract

G.D. Scholtz, born three years after the Anglo-Boer War, tried to promote the interests of the Afrikaner through his historical writings. On the one hand he fought British imperialism with a view to and an Afrikaner government, and on the other hand to prevent the enfrenchisement of non-whites in a unitary state through partition of the country as it could result in the decline of white South Africa. With reference to the Anglo-Boer War, which he placed in an international context, Scholtz warned against the possibility that an internationalisation of the race question could lead to sanctions and South Africa's isolation, with a possible result of forced equalisation. As a child of his time he predicted the downfall of the Afrikaner under a black majority government.
