oa IFE PsychologIA : An International Journal - The assessment of learning processes: some African data

Data based on responses of 218 Kenyan and 270 Zimbabwean 14-15 year old secondary school students shows the Learning Process Questionnaire (LPQ; Biggs, 1987) to be fairly reliable, factorially valid, and to correlate with self-esteem and locus of control much as expected. Comparison with like-aged students from Australia and Nigeria calls into question the stereotype that students from African countries are more prone to surface learning strategies than Western students.
