Diaphragmatic breathing is an exercise which induces a state of physiological and psychological relaxation. The paper focuses on the process of learning the exercise. The two-stage process consisted of a ten-step training stage and a six-step practice stage. The concept, mechanism and the application of the exercise in sporting activities were examined. Empirical studies highlighting the efficacy of diaphragmatic breathing in reducing anxiety were reviewed.
