Abstract

The study examined internal migration and urban employment among the youth in street trading activities in Nigeria through structured face-to-face interviews in randomly selected Central-Business-Districts in three major cities across three geopolitical zones in Nigeria. Data were analyzed using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis. The result indicated that migrant youths with lower education are 0.723 and 0.623 times less likely to experience a change in welfare status compared to those with tertiary education. The study concludes that youth migration and street trading are escape routes from poverty and survival strategy that could inform employment policy in Nigeria.
