Abstract

This study examined the influence of self-concept and intimacy on the sexual behaviour of middle and older adults. The study was a cross sectional survey that collected data from middle and older adults in Ife Central Local Government Area using a multi-stage sampling technique. The sample consisted of 375 adults. Three instruments namely: Sexual Behaviour Scale, Sexual Intimacy Scale, and Tennesse Self-Concept Scale, were used to collect data from the respondents. The results showed that self concept had a significant influence on the sexual behaviour of middle and older adults (r=0.24, p < 0.05). Also, intimacy had a significant influence on the sexual behaviour of middle and older adults (r=0.60, p < 0.05). The study concluded that the sexual behaviour of middle and older adults could be influenced by self concept and intimacy.
