Abstract

Fraud is a major - and growing - problem in South Africa as it is around the globe. In Cape Town a Malawian illegal immigrant employed as a waiter has been jailed for 10 counts of credit card fraud at a swanky wine estate restaurant before he is to be deported. The principal of a Salt Rock home school has been jailed after failing to appear in court on several counts of fraud related to matric exams. Four North West municipalities are being probed following allegations of alleged fraudulent payments of R30 million. The list goes on.
