According to reports by the United Nations Children's Fund, a quarter of the world's population will be African by 2050. The continent's population, currently at 1.2 billion, is set to double by the middle of the century and reach 4.2 billion by 2100. Taking advantage of the surging demand for food and beverages that will follow this growth, the challenge remains to produce products locally that will meet consumer demand and generate employment in the different African regions. It is also imperative for governments to realise the necessity of investing in projects that are likely to nurture the fabric of the continent's industry and foster sustainable employment.
