Abstract

The first printing press was brought into Natal in February 1844 by Cornelius Moll, a former journeyman printer for the Cape Town Mail. This press was once described as 'little more than a toy, suitable for printing tradesmen's cards and handbills.' Once assembled, however, Moll embarked upon the publication of a newspaper titled 'De Natalier en Pietermaritzburgsche Trouwe Aanteekenaar.'
