Public and private institutions will need to invest in more research and development (R&D) worldwide if production of wheat is to be boosted in the future, says Michelle Neilson from Bayer CropScience. The growing of wheat, the world's most important staple alongside rice, is currently increasing at a rate of one per cent annually. Global demand, however, is growing twice as fast.
