Although South Africa is not on the critical list in terms of food security, the rest of the continent is in dire straits. The country ranked 40th out of 105 countries on DuPont's Global Food Security Index (GFSI), an interactive statistical tool developed by the Intelligence Unit that calculates the root cause of hunger and how to address it. As one of the most desperate challenges facing humanity, the GFSI is a welcoming move by a company that has also pledged $10 billion to boost nutritious food supply for those in need globally.
