Two hot-off-the-press reports will have a significant impact on the food and beverage industry in South Africa. The latest move to shake up the food sector is the introduction of local salt regulations. In March, Minister of Health, Aaron Motsoaledi, signed an amendment to the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act of 1976 requiring manufacturers to decrease sodium content in food by up to 15 per cent by 2016 (with more drastic decreases expected by 2019).
