Most companies will agree that 2014 has been a very challenging year for all involved in the food and beverage sector. Slow market growth, raw material price fluctuations, the Moody's downgrade, new labelling regulations, food safety in light of the meat scandal (exposed by the University of Stellenbosch) as well as recalls such as the Sudan dye contamination in rice products, as well as environmental compliance pressures and the continuing Eskom crisis. On the upside however, opportunities can flourish in times of great change.
