Globally - and certainly in South Africa - food and beverage manufacturers are feeling pressure from a number of avenues: slow markets; raw material price fluctuations; health and environmental requirements; new technologies; and constantly amended regulations. Consumer tastes and demands are changing rapidly, giving rise to new and even more widely scattered market segments. To maintain success, manufacturers need to assess these sometimes seemingly insurmountable obstacles and turn them into opportunities.
