Both fibre and protein are integral parts of food to support weight management. Dietary protein and fibre can affect appetite, promote satiety, and ultimately serve as valuable nutrients for healthy weight management. Dietary fibre can increase satiety and reduce short-term energy intake, in part by adding bulk to food, thus reducing its energy density. It may also increase satiety by requiring the individual to spend more time chewing to break down the food as well as prolonging gastric emptying and influencing the production of gut satiety hormones. Polydextrose is a fibre composed of random linked glucose molecules. Evidence supports its capacity to suppress appetite.
