In recent weeks, the focus of consumer watchdog television programmes has been on the recall of 'dangerous' slimming products. On 5 February this year, Simply Slim sent out an Urgent Medicine recall letter in terms of the Medicines Control Council (MCC) guidelines, warning consumers that certain samples of its slimming product, available from retail stores, tested positive for sibutramine, a schedule five substance which can only be prescribed by a doctor. Simply Slim customers were advised to cease taking the capsules with immediate effect.
